Scripps  Announcing  state-of-the-art Proton Therapy for Cancer Treatment

Fortunately cancer is more survivable today than ever before,thanks to early detection and medical innovations. San Diego county Proton Therapy Center will be second proton therapy canter in California and the western United States with estimated cost of $185 million and expected opening for patient care by spring 2013.

For certain cancers, proton therapy offers more precise and aggressive approach to destroying cancerous and non-cancerous tumors, to conventional X-ray radiation. Controlled beam of protons to target tumors by precise delivery of proton energy limits damage to surrounding tissue, resulting in minimal or no side effect to the patients.

A none invasive treatment, proton beam therapy is usual performed on outpatient basis and is considered most effective on tumors that are localized. Patient  receives approximately 30 treatments, each treatment lasts 15-20 minutes, after which the patient is free to carry on with daily affairs.
